  • 0,14: A Selection of Early NFTs
    Curated by Robert Alice
  • 11 June – 1 September 2022

Held at the Palazzo Lolin during the Venice Biennale, 0,14: A Selection of Early NFTs proposes to retrace the early history of NFT. Displaying some of the most significant early works, viewers were invited to discover and understand the historical lineage of NFTs, the pioneers that brought them into being, and the different sub- genres that have emerged out of these early genesis works. The show takes its title from the iconic exhibition of Malevich’s Black Square (1905)  at the Last Futurist Exhibition of Paintings 0,10 in Petrograd in 1915. Its own genesis work that ushered in the world of abstraction, 0,10 has been reformulated to reflect the minting of Kevin McCoy’s first NFT in 2014, itself the genesis block of NFTs.

Diving into the history of blockchain culture since its inception in 2008 as well as the beginnings of on-chain generative, conceptual, and crypto art, each work in the exhibition allows for a deeper understanding of the crypto art movement, all of its subtleties and many strands.
